ParticipantThe new one looks SO good, and all I hear is that it’s an improvement over the older version.
But I also hear that I shouldn’t buy my first motorcycle new, and I found a 2006 with 1.4k miles. They’re asking for $2400.
I’ll be getting my permit and taking the MSF class over the summer.

ParticipantI’ve been reading the reviews on the new Ninja 250r and I have considered buying the bike because it seems like a pretty good deal and I’m more concerned with learning the basics than riding around on a rocket.
However, I’m concerned about the “inevitable” drop. I’ve heard so many people say that at some point you will lay your bike down. So, I don’t think I would feel good about effing up my nice new bike. Then again, even if I had a used bike, I probably would cringe if I got a scratch on it; I’m the same way with my car, cell phone, iPod, etc. I like keeping my things looking new.
With that in mind, I’ve considered buying a used bike and worry about having a looker a year from now; after I’ve learned the ends and outs of biking. The more I think about it, I’m leaning toward a used bike for my first bike. The new Ninja is pretty appealing, though, because it looks so nice. So you can learn the basics on a bike that looks good. I just don’t want to do anything that would harm those good looks.
