You may have had experience with riding, but how long ago. You say you want to go at it again. Do it properly and take the MSF course. If and when you buy your new bike you are going to need gear. Most shops give a pretty good discount for people who present them with a MSF course pass.

Do it right or don’t do it all. Things get wild on the road and that is not the place to start learning.
