Wow, it’s funny I find this post, as I’m in the same situation (also as a first time poster, I figured it better to recycle an old post, than make new one)
I too am a big guy.. 6’2 315 (ish) lbs… I’m taking the msf in 9 days time (nervous and excited). I imagine I’ve been doing like most of the fellow newbies..scouring forums and researching.
I’ve been looking at the kawasaki vulcan 900lt. I’ve had some reservations owing to the weight, but I’ve seen as many arguments for and against.. to be clear I’m pushing 40, so I do believe my racing days are behind me in regards to maturity, I’m looking for a cruiser I can enjoy–preferring to get their leisurely rather than fast, mostly a few hours here and there on weekends, and back in the cage for my daily commute.
I understand I may have a steeper learning curve, but I also understand there is a big difference between a 900 cc cruiser and a 900 cc sport bike. I’m not concerned with hauling a**, just hauling my own (literally).
Of course, I understand that just because I love the look of a model, it doesn’t mean it’s the right one for me, I’ve yet to sit on it (will be doing that Saturday), so I may come back with a different outlook.
Nothing against sports bikes, or duals, but it just isn’t for me. What do you think? Would I be getting in over my head with the vulcan 900 as a beginner bike, or with common sesne, plenty of parking lot practice, and respect for the weight under me, is this doable?
