Riding sugestions in LA for newie

I'm now on my third weekend of bike ownership and have enjoyed so far some street riding and a bit of the canyons and PCH/malibu. Just wondering any other suggested routes to ride for fun and practice, specially routes with low traffic, etc...

On a side note, I live in Hollywood and dont have my license (permit only), and most important, experience, so want to avoid getting on freeways for a bit...

See if you can find a regional moto forum in the LA area with riders who're familiar with the area. There are like only 6 guys scattered across the country posting regularly in this forum. ;-)
