Did the DMV mess up?

in

Now I might just be totally wrong and they did everything fine but I want to make sure that I don't have to go back to the CA DMV. So I went in today to take the written test for my motorcycle license and had with me my MSF completion form to waive the riding test. My waiver was taken from the lady at the first counter who also took my DL44. So took the written test and passed (it had several things not covered in MSF) then when I turned it in I recieved a Instruction Permit, that says Permits driving only, Also has a stamp saying I have read my permit and meet all requirements listed prior to taking the drive test, and says I must be accompanied by a licensed driver (which makes no sense since I already have my class C). So am I way off base and they just printed out the generic permit until they mail me my new license and endorsement or do I need to go make sure they understood the riding test was waived? Though glad I at least have the permit since this weekend I will be getting a 2008 GS500F. Thanks.

Sounds like it

When I took my MSF completion certificate to the DMV, I got a new license right then, same as the old one but with the "M" endorsement.

Damn

Well guess I am stuck with only the permit for now until I can take some time off to go stand in line at the DMV. After looking at the attached form it looks like I really did get stuck with a permit and no waived riding test, which is worse since now I have no proof of completion from MSF.

You should be okay

Aside from more time wasted at the DMV (sorry). They'll have kept your original completion certificate, the transaction should have been recorded by them as "motorcycle endorsement" (so they'll realize what happened hopefully), and in worst case scenario, the place where you took the MSF will be able to supply you with a copy of the certificate noting that you've passed the riding test if they've totally lost it.

Best of luck with the GS500F though!

Thanks

The quick response has been very helpful. Well went back in during my lunch break today and the DMV did make a mistake luckily the lady I got today was on her game and got it straightened out quick (though waiting took for ever) so now I am officially licensed which is great, can't wait to starting riding.

Good luck with the bike this weekend

Glad it worked out...there's nothing more frustrating than bureaucracy keeping you from your goal, right at the end.

When I bought my first bike used, I had to make 2 trips to the DMV to get it titled and registered, as the documents that their own website told me I needed were in fact not enough.

Me after 1 hour in line: "but the website said this was all I needed!" DMV minion: "Oh, it's wrong." Sigh.
