Yea, thats what happens when I drink beer these days. (-; I really, really need to get some new video, just never remember to take the camera when I leave in the morning. NSFW . . . Had to look that one up. LoL Yea, that song is a bitch, but I crack up every time I hear it. LoL I picked that band up from that show about the Full Throttle Salon at Sturgis. I like things that drift over the top now and again. (-;

hey, if its still there tomorrow, a cop t boned a car this morning and we got the bike. I'll grab some pics. Man did he hit hard. I haven't seen the news, I know they air lifted him, but word is he is doing ok. My heart dropped when I saw that bike, really a hard ass hit.

ROFL!

Jackyl!

Hilarious! Thanks for posting that, I had a good laugh. I hadn't heard those tunes in quite some time, and it brought back some memories.

My new ride to work

Elwood1960's picture

If you like the band, you like this. (-;

My 1st ten miles.

My 2'nd ten

Exactly 20 miles, door to door, this is my ride every day. This is todays ride in.

Did I mention splitting lanes is very illegal? When you see it, I risk jail. Right?

Nice cruise, good tunes, and a beautiful day

Hard to see a problem with that commute, unless it's raining I guess.

I think your split at highway speeds is illegal anywhere! Here in Cali, the rule of thumb is as long as traffic is under ~25mph. Over that, and you are expected to merge back in, although the law merely says "safely".

Then again, this cop in LA doesn't seem to care about anything, even double yellows!...

LA sucks. (-;

Elwood1960's picture

Hate the traffic your way. Have had the miss fortune a time or two. If we split lanes that way they would have us for lunch. They absolutely ticket for it. Only time I really do it is when I am boxed in a bit.

I'll do a sleepy mix soon. (-; Every now and then I do find the off switch. LoL

They say you will ride like you drive. That has proven true with me. Not sure that is a good thing. I have a safe drivers thing on my DL, but a good part of that is luck.

Interesting to watch.

Elwood1960's picture

Interesting to watch. Long after the rider is on the ground . . . . . the bike goes on. For those of "us" who like to think speed has something to do with skill . . . . .just a reminder, not always. Sometimes the bike far out rides us & "power" wins.

Elwood, I've come to respect

eon's picture

Elwood, I've come to respect your opinion on lots of things over the past year or so. You often make a lot of sense even on topics I would normally disagree with you on.

Now having buttered you up I have to say that is really sketchy riding there IMO. I have the same camera so I know how close you are getting to those cars as you weave in and out past them at high speeds (the camera makes things look further away than they are). Watching those videos the only thing I could think about was that ladder they talked about in MSF. Most crashes are usually a combination of factors that all combine to produce the 'accident'. I would say you are already several rungs up that ladder.

And "make it or fucking eat it"? What's that macho bullshit about? You do know ego doesn't only affect the teenage boys on sport bikes?

"I am quick"? You are going in a straight line! You are just gambling the car is not going to change lane as you squeeze past them.

"I am a pussy on film". Sorry, sounds like more ego to me.

Ride safe man, don't want to be reading about you in the Miami news papers.

That is soooooo much better

Munch's picture

That is soooooo much better to see from you. That ride there would be one you see everyday from me. Well minus the blown stop sign there at the end...but hey...baby steps.
Apparently I am getting older quicker then I thought . I actually enjoyed those songs more then I probly wished I did.
Look here bubba..... gonna say this once. I have no idea about the posture you took up above this..... with the lung problems and all..... however.... you need to keep your ass safe brother. I still aint got to meet you in person and your grand kid needs someone to show them how to ride properly. Don't quit enjoying life by any means, but don't be in a hurry to see the story end.

****Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but, rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Shit....What a ride!!!"****

Stop thinking. (-;

Elwood1960's picture

From day one, this forum said you will ride like you drive. That has proven true. The bad news, on a bike, a mistake will hurt. The good news, I have hundreds of thousands of miles, if not a million with no big mistakes in a car in this traffic driving just like this. Not justification, just a fact odds can roll on.

As for the lungs. Is what it is. Figure I get to see the 60's, early 70's if I am real lucky, or worse, not lucky and stuck on canned air. . But then again, no one I grew up with ever even dreamed i would see 30. (-; I was a bit crazy. LoL Cars, drugs, drinking, guns, company I kept . .shit I did was reserved for TV . . . a lot of luck in my life making it this far. Compared to the old days, this is calm stuff.

Munch, frankly, I am talking only to you. Almost sent this privet. But figured it might be good for the young ones to see I do as I preach. My lungs have not cost a tax payer a dime in spite of no insurance for some years now, nor will they ever. My actions, my price to pay. Given a tad bit of luck, I still have that ride to Alaska in me. but dont figure on a riding partner when your 80. (-; I have what we all have from the day we are born, I just will get there a bit sooner than some, and have a bit more advanced warning about the path than some is all. Thats neither good or bad my good friend. Is what it is. (-; And you know how harshly I defend the importance of that phrase. For me, it defines life.

This song is used now, but it has deep meaning for me, and will be used again.

PS
Did I mention it was a perfect day? In spite of a full day of work, I managed to enjoy just over 120 miles on the road today! Just a perfect day.

HAH! Don't mistake concern

Munch's picture

HAH! Don't mistake concern for a friend as a poke of regulation. As another note of reference to a song. Tracey Lawrence- "IF the good die young" . I am a huge believer in living life ( though these days I am feeling a bit of Garth Brooks' "Too young to feel this damn old").... or as I put in another post in the introduction section......
"I refuse to live life of boredom and restriction just to arrive safely at deaths door"
There's a bit of that in everyone of us that ride..... some of more strongly then others.
I am with ya man.... though .... 80 and riding to Alaska.... 2 old grey beards.... yea lol.... we'll put that on the long term goal list. As far as your lungs... Ever watch Sons Of Anarchy? The old man on there "Piney" yea.... bad respiratory and riding can co exist. Now the real thing is we need to get you up here in clean air. Then we can work on the rest far down the road.

This Saturday I ducked off

Elwood1960's picture

This Saturday I ducked off the expressway because traffic was backing up by my house. It was a sport bike. He was flying, someone clipped him and he passed on the flight to the hospital. Funny, no matter how fast i go, they like to do those same lane passes at over 130. Scares me every time. LoL

Lost a customer this week too. Working the dealer, you see how many go down.

Much, I know traffic, and honestly, its not difficult to work if you dont over commit to "rolling speed". You guys carving up hills at the edge of the bikes, and your own ability probably are taking as big a risk if not bigger. You just dont see it because you think its all you. But a rabbit, much less a dear or a bear, gravel, leaves, fallen rocks . .a rider over riding the road coming the other way . . .

At least on the slab I see traffic for a half a mile in front of me. I see "personalty" as I approach. I wont argue my riding is safe. It is however far from the "edge" 99% of the time. I have done these roads at 140 in cars back in the day. When I am "on" and reliving that, its different, it is a commitment to using that speed once its up. Not a "rush hour" endeavorer. LoL It is just an old Marine that still craves a certain kind of "rush" sometimes. It isnt macho, its always when I am alone, and its just something that when over leaves my shaking hands no longer shaking, but steady and satisfied. Cant explain it, but it bleeds away the small things in life for me like money. between by old boss not paying me the last 3 months I was with him, and the past 3 trying to get my feet planted in this business . . not been easy times. (-; I hold my breath every month when bills are coming in.

Dude, be assured, never a day passes I dont have my goal of a move in my mind. North, meaning north to the deep south, is a must happen in my life. You can count on the fact we will ride together. All in good time my friend. Someone has to teach this city boy how to handle a curve in the road. LoL And I absolutely plan on finding me a fine southern women with that beautiful "twang" in her voice to settle with. (-; All things in good time.

Harley vs Imports

I ride with guys that have Harleys. They paid more, but they will have a higher resale if they sell them. Some of them have both metric and American bikes. Harley specializes in big cruisers, or the Sportster which was a good sportbike in the 1950s and 1960s.

For me, the more motorcycle brands to choose from, the better. I do wish that Harley was honest about where their parts come from. As far as I can tell, about half the parts on most Harleys are made in Japan or China, and about 70% of the V-Rod parts are foreign- there is a reason their disk brakes, carbs, and forks have metric fasteners. At least if you buy a Chevy Camaro, it is common knowledge it was built in Mexico, and the Chevy Aveo is built in South Korea.

The trend is for dumb factory assembly line work in poorer countries, and high tech design for computers and cell phones in the wealthier countries.

For motorcycle racing, the Japanese big four, Ducati and Aprilia are winning now. Some think Lifan from China will be winning in 40 years- maybe I will live long enough to see it. It is interesting that for the bikes that are winning, the riders are usually from Europe or the US, including James "Bubba" Stewart from Florida, with African ancestors.
