Why we ride

Old school, what I fell in love with.
First, a man who never considered doing it on anything LESS than a 600lb bike. This dude was my f'en hero. Talk about the roots of "Harley" Style'. (-;
I have the very good fortune of working with a man that was with him for years. . . and even he has that indestructible spirit! Better people I have not met since I was in the suck.
Then, this flick came out. (On Any Sunday) I was just plain hooked. From this moment on it was never a matter of if, only when. I had some relatives in MC's, went down for a murder in Homestead, Florida. The rest of the family then was "committed" to keeping us kids from these "evil machines" and that awful lifestyle. Always my family, those in prison, those preaching to stay out of it.
I split a POS bike with room mates . .rode some in the late 70's, early 80's . . crashed once, high side at 50 plus . .few broken bones. (-; Took a rest while I raised my kids. Then we lost my cousin to a crash . . took a while for me to set aside the disapproval of my whole family and 99% of my friends, and get on a bike of my own. No looking back in time . .but looking forward, I was born to this. This film was a seed that grew over the years to something inescapable in my heart. Now I am one of the people in it . . and have never been as happy. Figure I will ride till I am dead. (-;
back then . . it was not all about numbers and speed . . .it was cutting edge adventure. It was just plain old FUN. I dont need to be on the cutting edge of technology travailing at the speed of sound . . . I just want to be on two wheels having THIS MUCH FUN!
Whats your dream?

I first saw On Any Sunday...
...after I got my license. But I remember thinking that if I didn't already have it, that film would have made me want to go get it. Best. Motorcycle. Movie. Ever.
And for like-minded souls, flat track racing in the U.S. is still more or less as you saw it in the movie. Of all the different types of motorcycle races I've attended, AMA flat track is dollar-for-dollar the most fun. It's still largely grass-roots, plenty of competitors are self-sponsored, and it remains primarily about rider skill, not technology. Only real thing that's changed is that the holder of the #1 plate is no longer THE #1 biker in every category as it was in Mert's day, but rather just the flat track #1.
Oh, and if you're a Harley fan, this is one type of racing in which HD does extremely well...why the company doesn't talk this up more, I dunno.
Flat track is considered
Flat track is considered small town stuff. But just like small stock car tracks, your right, more fun to me than the "big events". (-; Also agreed, this was a great flick. (-; I have it, just found it on u tube and got caught up with watching it anyway. LoL

Wow
I haven't seen that movie since I was a kid. I just went through all the videos you posted and now I'm going to look for the movie on Amazon. Thanks for reminding me about what riding used to be like.
Yea . . when my roommates and
Yea . . when my roommates and I bought that old 400 back in the 70's . .it "felt" like that. It wasn't all the hyper fast crazy stuff. It was just fun. (-;
