New Bike

Elwood1960's picture

Took her out to the parking lot today after work, just to see how it feels . .only another 100 lbs if that . . the extra rake up front shows just a little. Still can get turns to the stops . .she is a little wider on the u-turns, but not to much. Road around some . .no question the pegs drag sooner. (-; Real nice ride, really is.

What can I say that hasn't already been said?

That's one really sweet ride Elwood! I'm not even a cruiser guy and those pictures make me kinda jealous ;) You thinking of getting some video up any time soon?

I tried to do a walk around

Elwood1960's picture

I tried to do a walk around for sound and all today . .screwed up. I was using the little pocket camera without my glasses. I am blind as a bat. loL I cant ride with my glasses on, better to doge the blurs. loL

I am off tomorrow . .kind of. Between work and some other things I have gotten pretty involved with I have not had down time in a while. Think I will ride across town, see my grand daughter . .see where else I end up. Just torch a tank, ya know? Maybe I can get some video then.

As for the bike . .the Wide Glide is a staple . . not the best at anything. But pretty good at everything. If I have the story right . .it was the son of someone at Harley that designed her. He was not an engineer . .just a designer . . so it was one bike that was drawn for looks and not function. In the end they did an OK job at making it ride nice. I still show my age. (-; This is what I grew up with . . and I guess I am still running back to my youth.

Still say the best of the Harley line up is the Soft tail family. It is one of the best bikes on the road to me. It also costs more. (-; That one will be next.

The funny thing . .I went into the dealer thinking screw the money, I am buying a v rod. But when I sat on it . .fast it might be, but it felt small and cramped. Sat on this used bike that is the opposite of it and road it home. LoL If I were rich I would be like J Lino, I would buy a new bike weekly. (-;

Elwood, That is one sweet

Elwood,

That is one sweet looking ride. You know, sometimes the sissy bars just don't look right, but it really flows nicely on that bike. Those are some sharp looking wheels too.

Congratulations! I am very happy for you.

What do you think of the handlebars?

okcpony's picture

Don't those sit up a bit higher than your old ones? They look nice, and I was wondering about the comfort factor, as I do see a number of bikes around here that have those. I love the total look of that new bike, it's decked out nicely!

When I saw the handle bars on

Elwood1960's picture

When I saw the handle bars on the showroom my first impression was "to high". When I road it . .they are just under shoulder level, and the angle of the grips is very relaxed . . very comfortable. I am still getting used to impute . .not sure where added rake on the forks ends and handle bars begin, add another 100 lbs . . in what little PLP I have had time for so far it is quite comfortable, and I have pushed it to the stops some on tight turns . .but I am no where close to as comfortable with it as the sporty yet.

In town, and in general the bars are far more comfortable than the lower more aggressive position of the sporty. Run into a head wind at 90 and it is a bit of work however . . it does turn you into a "sail". At some point I am thinking a set up kind of like Munch has would work perfect . . for now it is not relevant. No money or time, and if I do it, I want it done right on this one .. in the mean time I am sure it will be like the Sporty, a few rides and you adjust to it quickly. Got about 200 miles in Saturday night . . it is a pleasure to cruise on, I have had very little interest in doing anything significant to it so far. I did order some leather fringe for the grips . .just haven't had time to lace them on yet. LoL Very retro.

Harley

I just think it is a great looking bike Elwood. Just my opinion but I like it way better than the Sporster. I went to the Harley place by my house and must say i like the Softail too.

In my ever so humble opinion,

Elwood1960's picture

In my ever so humble opinion, the Soft Tail line represents the gold standard in cruisers. It is the one they without question got right. Next time . . got the right deal on this one . . and I have to admit . .I did just plain like to look of the thing. I only have about 400 miles on it so far, mostly traffic time . .it really is easy riding and comfortable so far.

When I hit the lottery Saturday . . I add a brand new soft tail heritage to the barn. (-;
