I dont have a down payment, probably not in great shape on the trade with the sporty, have that minor little detail with the chapter 7 and all . . . .

But I am thinking this is the one if I can . . . kind of a really big if. In fact, I may be a year away when I see trade values right now . . . but then, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Was gonna go test one today, but could not get out of work in time. One day next week maybe. Bang for the buck, it is just setting between the sub liter cruisers and the super high priced cruisers. (-; Looks to have plenty of power, enough in size to handle the long runs . . equipped enough to leave her be for a bit anyway . . . and if I do it before the end of the year I can write off the sales tax under that "bail out BS" . . LoL

Fact is I am going to pay off the old cage this month and that also means dropping the insurance to just liability and PIP. All in all I'll be in a little better shape than I am now assuming I can get the loan at all.

I was thinking Soft Tail Heritage . .but the cost is just to high . .and this will probably be as good or better a bike for 8 grand less . . .

We shale see. (-; Been churning on this one a bit now. Any thoughts on the bike, anyone have any experience with one?

Can't help you with the VStar

eon's picture

Can't help you with the VStar but I can share your enthusiasm with the window shopping. I went to a store today to get some oil and ended up drooling over lots of bikes. The Versys caught my eye today. Never liked it before but it was looking good today. I *am* going to wait till next summer though before changing as my finances will be in better shape then.

Good luck with the shopping :)

I have looked at the Versys,

Elwood1960's picture

I have looked at the Versys, and the BMW R1200, kind of the same kind of idea. Very nice bikes all, I just cant get past the low center of gravity and stance of a cruiser. That R 1200 would blow away anything I am looking at in just about every mensurable way except "personal comfort". I might have to test ride one before I really decide . . . but for two up riding and in traffic, that low to the ground thing is just effortless on a good bike. The "heavy" part was short lived.

Munch . .agreed, no reason to bump off that 900 unless you really go for comfort. You cant compare your bike to the sporty . . yours is way more suitable for long rides. I am looking at that 1700 myself . .just a money thing . . kind of like the Soft Talil . .back into the same price points.

The 1300 is surfacing mostly as a bang for the buck bike. Not as "much" power as I would like, but that extra power does not come cheap. I think the 1300 would have enough power and tall enough gears and importantly, the suspension for longer rides. Not much sitting in that little slot out there . .they picked a good market position.

Been reading there forums . .clunky transmission, or was? (After riding a Harley, I question how clunky it will be to me) LoL Windshield complaints . .not a quick disconnect, poorly matched, no lowers . .lots of buffeting complaints and solutions. I agree, bat wing is the way to go, better to push a knife through the wind than a sheet of plywood. (-;

Money? Well, In a month IF my boss catches me up Monday, (two months with no commission checks now), I will lose $300 a month in car and related expenses, and this would IF I can do the right deal add about $100 over what I have on the sporty now, so I come out $200 ahead and with a bigger bike.

The only way I see getting a bigger machine than the 1300 is finding an 08, or even a left over 07 . . . get them doing a deal to clean up the sales floor. Used wont work, to hard to finance, and finance remains part of the purpose . . need to keep one account out there for a few years, rebuild for when the day comes to buy a house again. Sucks to have that bankruptcy hang over your head . . I'll die with that stink attached to my name I am afraid.

Nice choice there. Vstars are

Munch's picture

Nice choice there. Vstars are starting to get wildly popular here. I like the fact that it comes with hard bags on the touring model. Though I would ditch the windshield. Just a me thing I have gotten to love my bat wing fairing. After seeing Daggers and Sangria's Yammies I started taking second looks at them. Though I have to admit I am liking the Kawi styling better. Slightly larger fuel tanks for range. When the time comes to take that step I will have to venture some showroom time again. The 9 for now is perfect for me. Especially after I added the pulley and fairing. Going from a 900 to a 1300 is not really a bog deal to me. The V2K however............heh..... like the thought of that though.

Like you I would love to grab a HD and run, but these days they are way over priced. After I pay off the 9 I will be looking into up-sizing 1 more time maybe. As of current models it a Split decision between 2 Kawi's the V2K or the 1700 tourer. Thats a few years off though. I got some other things I want to take care of financially.

Wait what?! Seriously?

But Elwood, after all your talk I was damn sure you were gonna go for a CBR1000RR as your next bike! What gives? ;)

Ok in all seriousness, looks like an awesome ride. You know the rules: when it happens, pictures!!! Good luck getting it all squared away.

Brother, my 50 year old ass

Brother, my 50 year old ass will never be found humped over a sport bike. LoL Nothing against them, just is not the kind of riding I do.

I am not getting my hopes up to high just yet . . I put some money down on the Sporty, so a trade is not impossible, but between my credit and the market . . we'll see.

I really want to ride the thing. See how it feels.

Well, took the cage to prevent any impulse actions . .good i did. (-; They did not have a 1300 in stock, not with the touring package that is.
I was able to test set the bare cruiser model. I liked it with two items of possible concern.

Floor board with heel to shifter . . my foot barely fits between them . . maybe that can be adjust, or maybe you just get used to it?

2'nd was the handle bars. I could not do a full lock without hitting my knees. However, I do not think that is because I am tall, the swept back bars probably would hit most grown men . . maybe that is also a non issue . . in fact the bars almost touch the tank on a full lock turn . . so it has to be something I am just not used to with the sporty design.

I did find an 07 at the BMW dealer . . . think I might take my bike by and test the waters . . .

All that said, I also sat of the raider. WOW is all I can say. I LOVED it! I would have ridden it away. LoL The problem I see is the same as the sporty in a way . . need to "add" things that the bike would look better without, like a sissy bar and side bags. But that bike is smoking hot and for me a perfect fit and feel. Big 1800cc motor as well, and they have 4 going for 11K as opposed to the 14K msrp. I am doing some homework on that bike . . I have to say, if I could take it of the floor with side bags and a sissy bar( necessary for that dog seats stability), Id have to consider buying that one.

Still have to drop by two more dealers this week, and one more trip to the bmw dealer as well.

This one looks interesting, thinking I might should test ride one.

And

Munch
I want to plant myself on that 2000 and see whats what with price.

When I buy this one . . I live with it for a long ass time. So I would rather pay a bit more now than regret a lot later. (-;

The floor board thing will be

Munch's picture

The floor board thing will be a non issue. I know no one that actually rides with their feet planted dead center. It's a cruiser.... we all stretch out. Even on mine and my comparatively small feet I still have a tough time if I try to center up. Honestly my heel is usually at the center and my toes pointed off to where ever I feel is comfortable at the moment. If not resting on the Highway bars. The handle bars...yea unless they are straight weld customs types like that on the Kawi MeanStreak you can loosen the risers and rotate them up... or get higher risers.
I too looked at the Raider.... if ever I find myself single again I am sure I will look long and hard at it once more.
BMW's (affectionately for me translated into Bunch of Money Wasted) yea...I will leave those that don't want to look rugged on the HD's but seem to have the 6 figure salaries to afford either.
