Good ride today

Elwood1960's picture

Of coarse the GoPro works a lot better with a memory card in it. LoL So no vids. (Yep, left with no SD card for it) Rode with some of the guys from the Sporty forum. About 70 miles . .thats a lot for an in town ride. (-; I got caught in a thunder storm on the way to meet up with everyone down by the Key, got soaked to the bone, great start to the day. LoL Then we rode down old cutler to Black Point Marina and had lunch. Left, and we all got caught in that one, soaked to the bone again. (-; Went back through Coconut Grove to Key Biscayne to a place called Jimbos.

Interesting might be a word. Kind of a cross between tourists, homeless people, drunk boaters and bikers . . just odd. But a great ride all in all. And of coarse on the way home the bike got one more bath. LoL The guys were good peeps. Clean ride, no drinking, no foolishness, all Sportys, two of them pretty custom . . that was cool too. Other than some soggy duds, good day all in all.

Sounds like a good ride.

Sounds like a good ride. Shame about the lack of video :)
I have a question for you about the GoPro as I'm thinking about getting one. I'm not sure where I could mount it though other than low down by my front wheels. Not the easiest place to get to though to turn it on/off. I would have more options if that suction mount it comes with works well. Have you tried that? Does it need a flat surface to mount to? It's hard to find a perfectly flat surface on a bike.

Yeah, on that note

I just ordered one (hasn't arrived yet). Can you guys that have them (Elwood, 'spaz) offer up any tips about mounting/placement/etc.? From what I hear, the documentation that comes with them is dreadfully lacking. Also, is it really possible to remove the mounts without the adhesive damaging paint? Or should I just mount on easily-replaced plastic parts?

I don't have much plastic on

I don't have much plastic on my bike. (-; I use the handle bar mount . . works fine. I can move that to the crash bars, also works ok. It comes with some flat mounts that came with two sided tape, haven't tried them yet, but I think that is what spaz has on the back of his bike.

The mounting system is the only thing about that camera I was not, am not crazy about. I would have liked a traditional type camera mount. Oh well, in time I will come up with some slick ideas.

When and if my dog seat ever comes in, I'll be doing some kind of fabrication so I can see her riding. It'll be cute video, built it will also tell me what I need to do training or safety wise with the dog before I reach out for any really long rides with her.

I was bummed about no pics or vids. Next time. No real value to what i record, but it is fun messing with it at night when I am bored, part of the fun. (-;

I don't know about the suction cup thing. Probably pretty good, but if it fell off on I 95, no way I stop to find it. I want hard mounts.

I'll try to snap a picture of my set up . .maybe that will help you consider what your rig needs to do.

GoPro Mount

Just took a few pics, with and without the camera . . hopefully you can see it well enough to kind of transpose it to your situation . . .

Excuse the tape on the above . .till I find something better it works. If I go directly to the bar, it spins, cant get it tight enough. I want a bit of rubber to absorb more vibration too. The mount itself is plastic, and would be easy to break. To many pivot points, and still cant do a simple swing left to right. Just seems overly complex in design.

Thanks for the pics. I think

Thanks for the pics. I think I know how I will mount it now.

Instead of tape, you might

Instead of tape, you might look at wrapping it with leather. The leather should provide both some shock absorption and plenty of grip.
