I swear officer, my speedometer is broken!
That'll be my new line. But it's true.
On the way home from work this morning, my speedometer crapped out.
I recently had new tires installed.
I'm guessing it's that little cable that goes into the axle on the front wheel? No digital cluster on the ol' Ninja 250. I'm not about to start poking around in the dark, but what gives?

If there is any amount of traffic, just fall in line with the average speed of the vehicles around you. On side streets, just think about how long it would take to stop if a three year old comes charging out from between cars and match your pace to that.

It could be the cable, but it could also be that something inside the speedometer wore out and has to be fixed or replaced. Even a very small insignificant piece. Same thing happened to my car.

Fixed it tonight. Found out
Fixed it tonight. Found out on the Ninja 250 FAQ site that it's common enough to note the speedometer cable coming undone. I put it back in, tightened up the nut, and all is well.

I had the speedo-cable pop off my Ninja 500 once. Didn't know what was wrong until I pulled into my driveway and heard something dragging under the bike. Just be sure that it is secured in place under the gauge cluster there. If it pops off again, it could get caught in the wheels, and then you'll have serious problems. You may want to consider using some loctite to make sure that it absolutely doesn't come off again.
