naw it's more for just show, let's you know who the more active members are. Ben had something in mind for them but thus far life has other things in mind for him.
You get 2 I think for an original topic an 1 for replying.

Naw . .Munch is wrong . . if I hit 2000 points, I get the official "he has no life" award. (-; I think I get a blow up doll for that one. LoL
I think the idea was to give some kind of indicator regarding time in saddle and experience. However, Munch has fewer points, but he has far more miles ridden with a long commute to work. Cpt Crash only post some on our site, not a ton of points . .yet he is a real life rider coach and in fact teaches the very courses we talk so much about. So it is only an indicator at best . . . for the most part I would not pay much attention to them. Think of them as a "noob-o-meter" . . guys who showed up here at the research level and made it home. So we are noobs just a bit further down the path .. but noobs none the less.
In real life . . noobs sharing their experience has value. A veteran rider with no instruction on how to train a noob . . a guy who has been riding for 30 years probably long ago forgot all about how things feel as you learn. To much is automatic . . he does not remember what he had to make become automatic however. That makes his advice often times a bit to "advanced" for the noob learning a friction zone and basic head turns.
So as one of us passes one stage of learning, we kind of reach back and pull the next one along with us. That combined with the more experienced riders advise makes a great overall learning environment for a beginner. The points system is just a very basic guide to help YOU guess as to OUR experience level.

Yep both Elwood and munch are
Yep both Elwood and munch are correct. Just a basic way for the new people to see who is more experienced (or who is more of a forum whore hah!) and maybe take their advice more to heart. I do actually have some things planned for it, and the point system really allows me to expand when I have the time to do so.
Eventually if you have say 100 points, you might get a new 'status' or award next to your avatar. The more points you get the higher your status. That's just one idea, but I have others. The only thing really holding me back is lack of time :(
