had another interesting day at Infineon with K@TT...

Bumped my ass up to B+ after being involved in a couple incidents. First, some noob decides to swoop to the outside of the straight going to T4 after being in the middle for the first half of it as I was passing him. I Had to hit the brakes hard on the curbing and barely avoid kissing paint. Second, some twatwaffle decides to exit and passes me on the inside of T11 when I was about to turn in. Third, Some guy on a KTM had his mirrors on and didn't tape them up. I saw him peeking at his fakking mirrors when I was behind him getting ready to pass. At least I didn't crash this time and dropped a good 7 seconds from my best time in B- for my best time in B+. Average lap time saw an 5 second drop from my best time in B-. B- was fakking wacky today...

Videos were fakking wacky too. the first one has sound vid sync issues later in the vid. There's vid syncing issues in the second one as well between the 2 videos... apparently the pip vid records/playsback slightly faster than the main vid somewhere in the middle of the vid. Oh well...

professionally? good god no. haha. See all the riders that passed me? I'm low B(B+) group rider. My best time is 2:10. I averaged 2:12... Low B(B+) pace. The pros run that track in around 1:35-1:40.

You can tell they bumped ya

Elwood1960's picture

You can tell they bumped ya up a bit. You are not blowing all the other riders off the track anymore! LoL That'll push ya even harder. Still, you seem to be keeping pace pretty well. Not to shabby for the first few runs in that class.

I am sure as you hit the faster groups, you will also find more aggressive riders that are far less afraid of swapping a little paint . . to be expected. (-;

I was just thinking about the lap times. On Speed when watching motor GP racing, they talk about 3 seconds like it is the gulf of Mexico and "can it be made up . . . . you have 30 seconds to go . . .LoL To watch you ride, it is scary to think there is ANOTHER 30 or more seconds of speed to be found. (-; I can honestly say that I might just lack the brass to find that 30 seconds. (((-;

Balls

megaspaz's picture

Oh yeah... to go as fast as the pros, you definately need big iron cast balls... hell to even hit the bottom scale of the a group (2:03) you'd have to grow some big ones. The main problem is the faster you get, the harder it is to see improvements in laptimes. There comes a point where a really kick ass day is knocking down one tenth of a second.

Being an old man . . .(-;

Elwood1960's picture

Being an old man . . .(-; When I was young I used to talk about being on the "razors edge". Mostly in the real world it meant I was to wasted to know better. ((-; I confused "risk" with the expression.

As I got older, and involved in more demanding and less forgiving activities, you begin to see the best of the best up close, and see how far from that "edge" you really are. The truth is the "edge" is a very real thing. It is a machine at its very limit, ridden or driven by some of the very few and rare people who have combined natural skill and down right hard work to perfect that raw talent to pure art.

I like to say I have done many things in life just enough to develop a respect for those who are truly good at those things. (-; I am willing to bet you are already in the top 50% of riders regarding raw skill . . getting even to the top 20% is a pretty big deal. Top 10% you have found god given talent. Top 3% or above, say the word prodigy. (-;

Me . .I am none of those things. ((-; It however would be very cool to see what it feels like to ride at "my" limit on an open track. Still say you are doing great, especially for a guy who did not grow up on a bike.

Out of curiosity...

Megaspaz, have you ever given Keith Code's California Superbike School a try? If so, what did you think? Worth doing? Fun? Helpful?

I haven't given them a try

megaspaz's picture

I haven't given them a try yet. I don't know if I will. They're more expensive than keigwin's and the curriculum's about the same although there are some differences in opinions about lines. I'll keep on doing keigwin's and will may try out the star school as well, but i doubt it as keigwin's curriculum is the same as the star curriculum. I've just created a good repor (sp?) with some of the instructors at keigwin's and zoom zoom. So as far as school's go, i'd recommend keigwin's school whole heartedly as well as their trackdays and I'd also recommend zoom zoom for trackdays. either way, with whatever tdp or school you choose, it most certainly is fun and helpful.
