Honda CPR 1000

Friend of mine just dropped by work with his shinny new Honda CBR1000 . . pretty. (-;

Young dude i know from work, just split up with his old lady . .and he has ridden before. He is one of those midnight riders on these expressways on a stock bike now that will get up around 170, 180mph and he likes to chase it. Hope he keeps it rubber side down.

In any event . .it is quite the machine. However . .it did reinforce one thing I say all the time. I would hate riding that bike . . it just is not me. Got to find the bike that feels right under you. That thing is way to aggressive a bike, and aggressive a riding position. It is built for dragging those knees. (-; My tired old back and hips would revolt in the first hour!!! LoL It hurt just trying to "load" myself in that cockpit.

I think the Sporty is about as "sporty" as I can get. LoL Someday I have to try riding a sport touring bike and see what I think. For today, it was fun just sharing that "new bike enthusiasm" with a friend. (-;

CPR?

I was wondering whether you'd written "CPR" instead of "CBR" in the title on purpose. Congratulations to your friend on getting a new bike, and here's to hoping he becomes a bit more level headed and keeps the rubber side down, otherwise those 180mph night flights just might result in him needing some CPR.

Freudian slip. LoL We were

Freudian slip. LoL

We were taking odds after he left on how long before the first get off. (-; He is no noob, he is a squid to the bone, and really has many more miles under his belt than me. His last bike was only a 600 . . a fast one . .I know he was in the 140's with that. He is already ordering all kinds of toys for this, so I am sure it will do more than stock soon.

Hey . .I am not his mom. (-; I wish him well, and if we ride together, I'll have to lead, or just find him when I finally arrive. LoL

More than stock?

That thing is pretty close to race ready when it rolls off the line. The CBR1000 is one scary ass bike. Pretty though.

Someday, if I have spare money, I'd like to pick up a CBR600, or whatever Honda's equivalent is then.

Of course, that day might come sooner than I thought. Wife is starting to catch the bug, and has pointed out that she wouldn't be averse to taking my bike when I'm ready to upgrade.

If I ever went "sport" style, it would be something like the sport touring models. However, I don't see my old a$$ ever owning a bike that requires me to cram my legs up behind me. LoL I will die a cruiser guy with that lounge chair forward peg ride i think. ((-;

Man . .sucks to have a wife who "needs" you to find a new bike . . . sucks to be you! Lol

(And yes, I felt like I was sitting on a race ready bike when I butt tested his bike.) I don't think even at my age I would want to own anything that fast. At some point I would twist the throttle. I don't belong on a machine like that at all. My exploratory nature would test the waters at some point, and I cant think of a single street in this town that would welcome a 180 mph machine. Death on a stick to me. (-; To me that CBR 1000 is a track bike, and nothing but trouble on the street. (-;

Is a very pretty bike. I've drooled over them in the stores a few times, but I'm not ready for a bike that size yet. My pocket book definitely isn't.

I've heard from folks who ride them that they're really comfortable. Your position is supposedly closer to standard, and all of the ergonomics have been thought out properly for long rides.

Being an HD man though, you've got a good selection of cruiser style touring bikes that you can choose from. The HD touring bikes are supposed to be pretty comfortable for long rides.

I am not a brand loyal guy. I like what I like. (-; The sporty is one thing, the "spirited personalty" is part of the fun . .if I ever went after a cross country bike . .I would have a very open mind. (-;

Heck, even the size . .at this point I would hop on anything and learn the bike. No fear of that anymore. However . . . that "expensive" is a whole different issue! loL It will be a very long time before I see another bike in my barn I am very sure.

Sport Tourer is usually less extreme

My Concours has the sport look, but is really a standard. The ergo on it is not much different from a Sportster with standard controls and drag bars. My feet are right under my butt, about like you'd sit if you were in an office chair and slid your feet onto the legs of the chair. I find it comfortable for my old knees.

As for top speed, it's only 126 (supposedly), but just never feel compelled to push 100. Bike feels rock solid at that speed, but the fear of LEO starts kicking in.

I've been leaning towards a dual sport bike for some time now and when I finally sell my house in Atlanta and free up some cash, I will be going shopping. However I find myself looking at all sorts of bikes. Occasionally those sport bikes seem very attractive, maybe a 'refined' Duc instead of the blinged out RR bikes. Too many choices and not enough cash :)

He already has done some work to it. No signals is the one that stands out . .they are integrated into his new lights.

Me not being a sport bike guy . . .looks like some exhaust work and some stuff removed and cleaned up back there? New pegs? Sliders . . . in any event . . just for the sport bike people . . .
