Another dern tarheel

fireball's picture

Howdy y'all,

I've been lurking on the board for some time now and I thought it only decent to introduce myself. I'm NC born and bred, 7th generation to be exact. I make my home in God's country, also know as Davie County. That's the western piedmont / foothills area of NC. I have lived here all my life except for a short stint in the military.

My wife and I recently took the MSF course at Mitchell Community College and I have since gotten my endorsement. We still haven't gotten bikes yet, more a matter of finance than nerves.

HAh!!! Howdy..... Us natives

HAh!!! Howdy..... Us natives are the rarest breed. I think one of these days we need to just all get together and have a tarheel meet and greet.

Wheels

Sounds like a plan. Just give me time to get some wheels (may be a a while though, my truck went kaput this morning. 24 years and it up and quits on me!).

Welcome. I'm from NC as well

Welcome. I'm from NC as well (Boone (Watauga Co.) and West Jefferson (Ashe Co.) to be exact. I wasn't born there (way upstate NY for that) and I was probably bred in NC (don't really care to know, lol). I miss the falls!!!

Welcome aboard. Know how that

Wheels! Finally.

Well, we were able to finally get our ducks in a row and buy a bike. After much deliberation we bought a 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 last week. So far I've cruised around the county and commuted to work a couple of times.

Contratulations!

Great news. You got over the financial hill quicker than I did. It took me about 10 months to get from the BRC to bike purchase.

Congrats! The V500's are

Congrats! The V500's are awesome bikes. Great beginner and even well into more intermediate skill. She's great for duckin and dodging through parking lots, great on gas...and as you start getting your skills down....on those back roads....Open her up a lil... you will be surprised how quick she is. Lay into her just right and triple digits will not be hard to find.
When I had mine my co workers at the shop thought I was gonna pull a wheelie one day after nearly getting cut off by a soccer mom. It was close. At the light I just laid into the V500 shifting hard and fast, they swore they saw the tire clear the ground, but I never felt it. Of course I didn't have to many more times of running her out. She was a fun scoot!

leaves suck

fireball's picture

We've had the V500 for about five months now and things have gone pretty good. Until the morning temps fell into the low 30s, I rode to work almost every day.
The only problem I've had is on wet leaves in my own driveway. I've fallen three times in nearly the same spot in two weeks. I think the main problem is that that portion is muddy and the wet leaves act like a slip n' slid when you cross them. Well, I know where to start grading and adding gravel when the weather warms up!

Yeah NC! Asheville here.

Yeah NC! Asheville here. Though I'm up in the "frozen north" for university. We gotta have a get together and head out for some barbeque. Anyone? Just give me a bit to get my bike first, and we should be good to go!

P.s. Fireball, nice Corsair pic. (At least that's what it looks like in that tiny wee picture)
