CO newbie with a few questions

Hello all,

my name is Josh and I live in Lakewood CO. I'm interested in purchasing a 250 cc starter bike and the Hyosung GV250 has caught my eye. I've never ridden but want something for going to/fro work (15 min commute on easy roads).

I'm also curious if anyone has any recommendations on courses to take. I've found a few in the area but was interested in other peoples experiences.

Thanks!

Josh

Physics and astronomy. I

Physics and astronomy. I really like those subjects so I would recommend courses in those. English Lit is fun too.

Oh, you mean Motorcycle courses! The MSF beginner course and check out the Idiot's Guide to Motorcycling from your library.

Thanks Budd.

I had found MSF, will look into it further.

History would be another one, but as an itinerant English major I'd agree with the English Lit courses too! :)

As a former English major

As a former English major and current holder of a BA in English, I would suggest changing your major and pursuing literature in your free time. I would suggest a Engineering degree or something with a certification.

Well said. I work in a field unrelated to my major (Food processing and packaging), but it's nice to have my M.A. in English Lit in my back pocket in case I want to do something with it down the road. As for Engineering or certification, I'm done with school.

RE: Hey Josh

Thanks but I'm not really a fan of sport bikes. I find this site extremely beneficial, useful and sensible. The attitude of "all the gear all the time" is something that fits with my mindset for riding. For all involved in maintaining this site, keep up the excellent work.

Josh

What is it about this site

Budd's picture

What is it about this site that sucks? Is it the fact that we are responsible and sensible, or is it the lack of the how to stunt section? Why register if the site sucks so bad?

Yeah the Hyosung GV250 can

BoOZe P-ti Motard's picture

Yeah the Hyosung GV250 can be a good starting bike 'coz you'l not really feel the power because a cruiser's chassis is heavy uh huh uh uh... But i say you better have a deal with Japanese than Chinese because I've had my #@$^%@$ with chinese but better start taking care of a chinese moto than just run it throttle wo coz later you ganna hav all sorts of problems... The hyosung GT250 and GT650 is available here but only 2 I have seen so far... All have cbrs n gixxers.
Chinese:leaking, vibrations, parts braking, coming out, falling off on the road while riding, weak parts to name a few... XD

Hyosung is Korean, not

WeaponZero's picture

Hyosung is Korean, not Chinese or Japanese. The reviews of them say they perform well but seem to have poor build quality and don't hold up well over time. General consensus seems to be don't buy a Hyosung unless you're planning on upgrading to another bike within a year, because when things on them do eventually start to go wrong, you won't be able to find parts. Have you ever bought a brand new car that worked just fine without a hitch for a few years but then one thing went wrong, and as soon as you fixed it, another, and another, and it turned into a money pit that spent more time in the shop than on the road? You should expect that from a Hyosung. I don't know this from personal experience, just from reviews on the internet. I do hope their quality improves, they seem to have some really nice looking bikes.

Ok korean but not

Ok korean but not japanese... and you are absolutely right... and I know about hyosungs, only two gt650r but plenty of 125cc!

The quality and lack of bikes on the road was/is a concern for me. Thanks for the response.

Hyosung is not a new company

Budd's picture

Hyosung is not a new company or even new to motorcycles in Korea. They are new to the states. From what I heard they are a little cheap, but most of the problems are coming from improper dealer assembly because they are not familiar with the bike, or just don't care. A lot of people have called them the KIA of the motorcycle world.

You might be right on

BoOZe P-ti Motard's picture

You might be right on certain points but the overall bike parts and system are not made of genuine resources. This is to decrease the bike's price, in certain ways and act as a competitor to other bikes. My ol'bike had a competitor, same design except for a few changes but the material of which the cylinders and crankcase were made were no good at all. Better invest some $$ into something good and you won't have to deal with problems later, I got my lesson! ^$@#^& and btw, I heard suzukis gixxer had their parts from that company?

I heard Hyosung makes parts for Suzuki too. But my Suzuki dealer denied that vehemently.

Good to see I'm not hte only one with double (or triple?) posting issues.

I don't think Hyosung makes any Suzuki parts anymore. I'm not certain they ever did. I've heard conflicting reports on this, though in all cases they said Hyosung made stuff for the Asian market only (so no Hyosung/Suzuki stuff would end up over here). Their relationship has more been one of combined R&D.

I think the "getting parts for hyosungs" is a bit overblown. A lot of that has to do with the distributor and dealerships. My local Hyosung dealership seems pretty on the ball, and no one has ever complained about them not getting a part in right away.
