ParticipantHi,
I’m soon returning from the muddle east (July 5,2008), and am looking to get back into riding after many years..
Have completed the MSF basic riders course, and am looking for a new bike.Especially interested in a Suzuki 650 SV ABS, or a Kawasaki Ninja. I realize a 650 is the upper limit for a newer rider, but I’m big, 260 lbs., 5’10”,and was concerned that a 250Ninja might not have the power to move me without high revving all the time. Also, I’m 60+ years old and have seen enough danger that I’m not out to break any speed/performance records, just want a peaceful economic ride to town (35 miles roundtrip) a few times a week.
Most of my riding will be on country roads with little traffic at 8000ft. altitude. There’s only one traffic light within 100 miles, perfect biking territory.
Also looking for advice on a good place to buy a new, or lightly used bike. Are they discounted at all, or do you have to pay MSRP or even more? That seems to be what I’m seeing on other forums. Just bought a new Ram 2500 pickup and got $10,000 off MSRP, why should it be different with bikes?
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

ParticipantWelcome! As an SV650S rider, I have to say, it’s an excellent bike.
There’s less mark up on a bike, so don’t expect 10K off the msrp if you go new. Although, getting an older model, there are deals to be made.
